Vintage Disney Style

Mar 24, 2018 : By Justin

Outfitting a piece a Disney history.

Vintage clothing and thrifting. When people hear both of those words a picture is painted about a dingy Goodwill that is only good for looking at what crazy things people donate. Sometimes you can spend an hour at a thrift store and walk out empty handed. But when I walk into a second hand store filled with clothes I see a treasure hunt that has gold hidden in every corner.

Even if you dig through the thrift store for hours and managed to find one piece, why would you consider an old shirt that has multiple stains or holes? But that’s the best part of finding a vintage piece, it has history and a story.

When I find an old Fantasmic tee with stain at the bottom of the shirt. I can only imagine a Disney fan who is watching Fantasmic for the first time eating a turkey leg drinking a Coke and spills some because they get shocked from Maleficent’s fire that lapses the Rivers of America. That shirt is still they’re favorite though because it’s symbolizes an amazing trip to Disneyland and that shirt has its perfect washed color and feel because it been worn multiple times. And now the print has cracks and the shirt is fading. And the timeline is written and history is made for that shirt.

Not only is there personal history to each piece but through the artwork you can see how the Disney Company has grown and developed . You can find a shirt that celebrates Magic Kingdom’s 25th Anniversary that has an eclectic group of characters like Genie, Lumier, Simba Goofy but that is what drove the Disney Company during the 90’s. You can see the fashion trends through each era like the bright colors that made Zach Morris the coolest kid in Bayside High. You can Mickey on just about everything style that was popular; overalls, denim shirts and snapback hats. Nothing beats a vintage shirt that just hangs over your shoulders and has a well worn look.

Hit up your local thrift store, flea market, Goodwill or Salvation Army and dig through those racks and find the perfect tee that speaks to you.
